Woooot!!! Holiday time!!!

Hubby and I are off to the beach to camp for a few days tomorrow so I thought I'd get this last post in before I go. Meg memed a few days ago and pegged me as being both the most likely and least likely person to respond to it, showing both her faith and lack thereof in me. So I guess I'd better have a stab at it.

48 things you could care less about

1. First Name? Rebecca.

2. Were you named after anyone? Nup. And I'm glad. I would never name a child after someone who's died. I think it can place too much of other people's feelings on a child. And how would you feel if you got named after someone and then found out something awful about them like that they secretly murdered someone or hated animals?

3. When did you last cry? A few weeks ago when Hubby brought me flowers unexpectedly for no reason on a day when I'd been thinking how I really needed a little something nice like that.

4. Do you like your handwriting? Yeah, it's messy but curly. I like to think it's a creative person's handwriting. I'm a bit up myself.

5. What is your favourite lunchmeat? I love meat. Any meat. Meat good. Salami best.

6. If you were another person would you be friends with you? That one kind of has a circular answer. I mean if I was another person would I have the same personality that I have now? Or would I be totally different. What if I was like some wanker stockbroker or something? Then no I wouldn't like myself. But then maybe I would because wouldn't the original me also be a stockbroker? So wait that means if I was going to be another person I would have to be the same person but in two bodies, and then I don't think I would even get to that "hello how are you" stage because I would be all freaked out about seeing my doppelganger.

7. Do you have a journal? Isn't that what this blog is?

8. Do you still have your tonsils? Yes. Even though I get tonsillitis every couple of years. It goes away.

9. Would you bungee jump? You know when I was younger I used to dream about doing that sort of thing, but now I just think of the hospital bills and the pain. Oh, the pain. Hubby says I shouldn't think about life that way but hasn't had a brain haemmorrhage or been hit by a truck.

10. What is your favourite cereal? I don't like cereal. I eat it because it's convenient. I like all other kinds of breakfast food. Although I prefer it for lunch and dinner. I prefer dinner for breakfast. I don't like lunch.

11. Do you untie your shoes when you take them off? Not unless I have to. Probably the only shoes I untie are my mountain biking shoes with the pedal-clips on them because I have to tie the laces so tight to keep them on.

12. Do you think you are strong? Shit yeah. Not even a truck can kill me. Woot!

13. What is your favourite ice-cream flavour? Streets Blue Ribbon vanilla or Blue Ribbon double choc. Or cherry sorbet from a street vendor in sunny Rome.

14. Shoe size? 8. Ms average.

15. Red or pink? Both - together.

16. What is the least favourite thing about yourself? My shyness/lack of confidence in myself.

17. Who do you miss most? My beloved cat Sooty. She met an untimely and very unpleasant demise a few years ago. I'll never get over it.

18. Do you want everyone to send this back to you? Wha...?

19. What colour pants, shirt and shoes are you wearing? This assumes you are wearing pants. What if you are wearing a skirt or a dress? Or nothing? Alright. I am wearing pants. Dark brown ones, black jumper, black Camper shoes with a picture of a ball of string trailing through a maze embroidered on them.

20. Last thing you ate? Actually, I just had a nice roast kingfish with calamari salad at Aria with my workteam. Every year we take part in Let's Do Lunch which is organised as part of Sydney's Good Food Month.

22. If you were a crayon what colour would you be? Multicoloured.

23. Favourite smell? Roast chook in the oven. Oh god, now I'm hungry.

24. Who was the last person you talked to on the phone? Hubby. I generally avoid phones like the plague. I am just not a phone person. I would rather see someone's face when I am talking to them. I will walk eight flights of stairs to see someone briefly at work rather than pick up the phone for 2 seconds.

25. The first thing you notice about people you are attracted to? It's not one thing. It's a whole bunch of little stuff, and I think very little of it is stuff that I would consciously notice myself liking.

26. Do you like who you stole this off? I object - this question contradicts Question 48 which purports that this was actually given to me. Yes, I like her.

27. Favourite drink? A good rough black tea with a strong tannin flavour, or a chai latte from Bar Carina.

28. Favourite sport? Skiing.

29. Eye colour? Brown.

30. Hat size? Who knows their hat size these days?

31. Do you wear contacts? No

32. Favourite food? Anything I haven't had to cook myself. I thought it was suckling pig from Cala Luna, but we went back there the other night and it wasn't as juicy as the first time i tried it.

33. Scary movies or happy endings? I love horror. Happy endings make me puke.

34. If you could live anywhere in the world where would that be? On a farm in the mountains with a multi-directional wormhole, the other ends of which came out in the city right near work, and at the beach, and at the snow, and a nice little village in the south of Italy, and.....

35. Summer or winter? Both. I like the difference between them. But to be honest I prefer autumn. That's my favourite season of all.

36. Hugs or kisses? Hersheys suck. But if we're talking real hugs and kisses, then either, as long as they're from my sweet hubby.

37. Favourite dessert? I'm a sucker for creme brulee. Or anything vanilla-y.

38. Who is most likely to respond? Carla.

39. Least likely to respond? Izaac. I reckon he would if he wasn't so busy looking after a brand spankin' new baby.

40. What books are you currently reading? Dang, I just picked something up to take away with me camping and I forget the title. Miss Murdoch's something-or-other. Hell, it was recommended by Women's Weekly. That's good enough fer me. Edit: It's The Shifting Fog by Kate Mortan. Where the hell did I get that Miss Murdoch bullshit from?

41. What's on your mouse pad? I don't have a mouse pad either at work or at home. I don't see the point as I use laser mice, not rollerball.

42. What did you watch on TV last night? NCIS and Tripping Over.

43. Favourite sounds? That's a big question. Sound is one of my favourite things. I love my music. And I love the hustle and bustle sounds of the city in the morning. But then I love the little teeny sounds of birds and frogs and stuff when we're out camping. Probably my fave sound though is of the wind whooshing around the house and the rain beating down on a wild stormy night when I am tucked up in bed all cosy.

44. Rolling Stones or Beatles? The Smiths.

45. The furthest you have been from home? Ireland I guess. Or Canada? Which one is further?

46. What's your special talent? Starting stuff. Getting big crazy ideas. I never follow through, though. I'm not a finisher.

47. Where were you born? Oddly, I've come back to live only a few k's from where I was born. I have lived all over the eastern side of Australia in the meantime though.

48. Who sent this to you? Megalicious

Thank you for listening. See you on Thursday. And while I'm away consider this piece on the wonderful Borat.

Humiliated and now defeated. iPod.

If mine is any example to go by, iPod has been a bitch of a device from the outset. With constant battery failures and other "unexplained" problems causing the thing to freeze or die, and with a shocking service record from Apple leaving unhappy customers with reconditioned replacements instead of a new unit, it really wasn't a surprise to see it hit the Shonky list for 2006.

But it is a very pleasant surprise to see that iPod's other mean 'n' nasty feature is about to come to a welcome end. Jon Lech Johansen, the guy who worked out the trick to DVD encryption so that we could all copy and play DVDs on any device to our heart's content, has now figured out how to get around Apple's FairPlay technology which has restricted iPod users from listening to music bought from non-iTunes digital music stores. According to Sydney Morning Herald, Johansen's motivation to do this was fuelled by "his belief that users have the right to listen to songs they have bought legally on any device they own", and if he makes lots of money out of it in the process (which he of course will) well that's ok by me.

Situation: CRITICAL

I have moths. I mean, my flat has moths. Sorry, I'm a bit panicked. I have some serious wool stockpiling going on and now there are moths. Everywhere. I caught these two at it tonight (*shudder*) and blatted them (*double shudder*):

And then there were another two singles lookin-for-love around my yarn stash:

This is very very bad. I'm too scared to look in the bottom of the yarn stash to see what the damage is. It hasn't been just these four moths that I found tonight. I have been finding heaps of them all over the flat. I would say I have come across at least 20, no jokes. How much damage can that many moths do? I'm guessing a lot. Just recently I found a jumper my mum handknitted for me years ago that had been chewed by a moth since the last time I pulled it out a year ago. That was fairly traumatic but it only would have been one moth's damage. I think I might just shut my eyes, keep swatting insects, and never look in the bottom of the yarn box. There are some things I can't face.

Knitted terror

I put two more tags up last night with the help of another SnBer and Hubby and a sizeable amount of beer. Thanks to all three of them. The pics aren't great because it was a night drop but you can see Circular Quay in the background...just:

This one has the Harbour Bridge in the background. You'll have to trust me on that one:

Oh, lookie, there she is:

Anyway, these pics are the best you are going to see. I went back there this morning to get a better shot in the daylight and, at 10 in the morning, they were already gone. I would love to think that they were taken by some happy drunk or tourist last night but I know in reality it would have been security removing them in the name of keeping us all safe. I mean, who knows when all that fun fur was gonna blow?

Pilfered!

...or should I say souveneired. The swannies knit-tag I left the other day is gone! About 5ish last night I went past on my way to the gym and noticed that someone had had a go at getting it down, but given up and instead refashioned it to fit around the pedestrian press-button. It looked pretty cute that way and I was going to post it as graffiti that had been graffitied! But on my return from the gym it was completely gone. There were a bunch of guys dressed in swannies colours (for some reason since the game was last weekend and they lost!) hanging around a few feet away peering into the Channel 7 newsroom...wonder if one of them is taking home a souveneir!

Anonymous graffiti

I love this bit of knit tagging. I don't know who did it - but I found it on Knit-o-rama. The label says "a random act of knitting". The cable ties are a good idea. I have been stitching my tags and it takes a while.

Nature - up close and personal

Hubby and I did a bit of bushwalking on the weekend and discovered the native spring flowers out in force. Anyone who thinks the Aussie bush is drab and frazzled should think again:

And the wildlife was out and about too, hiding amongst the rocks in the creek. We came across an eel:

And a pretty big yabbie:

Unfortunately I came home with a piece of wildlife of my very own - a tick. Hubby got it off by drowning it in Jack Daniels first. Pretty funny - it actually looked drunk, flaying its legs around until Hubs plucked it off with a tweezer.
