Busy

Photo: Just finished making 32 metres of this stuff.
I know I suddenly went quiet when I just said recently I was coming back to blogging for good.  Always the way!  This is what I've been off doing.  I just made 32 metres of beautiful bunting for a company doing kid's parties here in Canberra.  I have to say I quite enjoyed the experience.  And I can even say I would be up for some more if anyone happened to contact me about it.  It costs around $18 a metre for these mega size flags which are big enough to make an impact in an outdoor venue and colours can be arranged for occasions like weddings, birthdays, or anything really!  Totally reuseable and will last for years.  Convo me through my Etsy shop at http://teapotandsnail.etsy.com or email me at teapotandsnail@gmail.com.

Loving winter!

I always have a bummed out moment at the start of winter, just when it starts to get good and proper cold.  When crisp, cool autumn, which I love, gives way to dead leaves and hibernation.  I can't get motivated to do anything - I guess it's denial.  I want summer back and can't deal with winter, not yet.

Then skiing starts and just one trip can rev me up into overdrive.  I went down to Perisher on Sunday, and just that one morning of skiing (my legs gave out about 2pm!) has me pumped.  I have more energy than I've had for weeks - even though the nearly 5 hours of driving and flogging my long-asleep legs on the piste also really took it out of me.  What a shock to the system!  I've had my wake up call.  Now I'm craving my next hit.  And not only of the skiing but of the hot chocolates with the lot that I've already started indulging in.  It's fair enough having one of these when you've been careening down icy slopes all day, but when all you've done is drop your child off at playschool, maybe not so much.  Hopefully this new surge of motivation will keep me burning off some of these calories!

Finally

So glad that this has finally happened.  And also a little sad that it has taken so long.

Edgy girl

Here's a pic of my little sweetie pie (nearest to the camera), now 3 years old, looking very streetwise with her pink princess friend.  These two know each other like sisters.  They have been friends since they were only a few weeks old, through our mother's group which has stayed very close.  They stick to each like glue, love each other to bits and fight to the death over every little thing just like sisters!  The outfits are because they have just been to their dance class where they insist they always wear the very finest in pinkery and tulle.  I haven't yet tried it but I am hoping to make her some kind of frippy tulle-y type tutu outfit - I've bought a bunch of grey satins and tulles to match her beautiful grey eyes.

Back in style

Kind of a double meaning to that title.  Not only am I back to blogging as of NOW, but the reason I am back is my sudden inspiration to show you some of my recent finds at op shops lately. I have been keeping all this retro goodness to myself, but then just recently I met Claire from Ope Shope Hope.  She blogs her obsession with op shopping and who can blame her - it's a wonderful sport.  But she has also unwittingly spurred on my own obsession which has been deepening of late.  So I have decided to share a few of my favourite scores, beginning today with this one:

I love collecting vinyl - there's nothing like the deep rich sound you get from LPs and Hubby bought me a brand spanking new turntable last Christmas.  So when I saw this old library display stand for $20 at the tip shop I just had to have it!  Hubby turned a sickly shade of yellow when I said I wanted it - I am always bringing things in to the house with nowhere to put them.  And he was a bit weird at first when he realised my record collecting hobby was starting to take over the living room, but then he caught the bug himself and it's been smooth sailing since.

My other recent faves are this table and the tureen on it:

The table needs work but the two of them both have these great round shapes that I was drawn to. I have seen this table shape elsewhere but don't know anything about it.  You can see I am on a serious 70s jag.  We have a 70s era house so I must be channelling the spirit of some long deceased inhabitant.  Something about the style of the era has me completely obsessed.

Anyway, there's the start of my return. A brief chat for now but I will be back with more in a day or two with more of my second hand finds.  I'm knitting again so maybe I will give you a quick look at that too.

Also just before I go - one small but shameless plug.  My Etsy shop has been pumping out the patterns lately and I've been blogging the patterny goodness here:

Just so you know.  Coz it wouldn't be right not to share  :)
